About the event
The "Halloween & Dia De Los Muertos Latin Dance Event" is a unique and vibrant celebration that combines the traditional festivities of Halloween and the Mexican holiday Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) with the excitement and energy of Latin dance and music.
The event typically takes place around the end of October or early November, coinciding with the timing of both Halloween and Dia De Los Muertos. The aim to bring people together to celebrate and honor these two distinct but complementary cultural traditions.
The setting of the event will be decorated with a mix of Halloween-themed decorations like pumpkins, ghosts, and witches, as well as colorful and ornate Dia De Los Muertos altars adorned with marigold flowers, candles, sugar skulls, and photos of deceased loved ones. This combination creates a visually stunning and culturally rich ambiance.
Come dressed in your choice from various costumes, which can range from traditional Dia De Los Muertos attire with skull makeup (calacas and calaveras) to classic Halloween costumes and anything in between. This blending of costumes adds to the overall festive atmosphere.
The main focus of the event is, of course, the dancing. Attendees are treated to an array of both Latin dance styles and Social Dance styles. Latin styles will mainly include salsa, bachata, & merengue. Social styles should include Swiung dancing and many of its variations - Lindy Hop, Charlestone, East Coast Swing, and Single time swing OR Rock n Roll.Â
Other local Studios may also display such styles as Cha Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Kizomba and more. These are the American Latin Standard styles. Professional dancers & dance instructors may give performances or even lead short dance lessons for those who wish to learn or improve their moves.
In addition to the dance performances and lessons, the event will feature music with a lively mix of Latin beats with a blend of modern hits. The music is carefully selected to keep the crowd engaged and on their feet, ensuring a night filled with excitement and enjoyment.
Alongside the dancing and music, the event often includes various cultural activities and rituals associated with Dia De Los Muertos. This will include face painting stations where attendees can get their faces painted with traditional sugar skull designs, as well as opportunities to create and add offerings to the community altar in memory of departed loved ones.
Overall, the Halloween & Dia De Los Muertos Latin Dance Event provides a fantastic opportunity for people of diverse backgrounds to come together, celebrate their cultural heritage, and enjoy an unforgettable night of dancing, music, and remembrance. It is a joyful and respectful fusion of two distinct traditions that leaves attendees with lasting memories and a deeper appreciation for both Halloween and Dia De Los Muertos.
