Social Swing Dancing

Swing dancing - is a popular social dance that is often characterized by kicks, spins and a groove. It's generally upbeat, lively and a lot of fun to watch—and to dance! Like most dance styles, there are variations of the dance. It includes some basic steps and then dancers have creative freedom to make it their own. Commonly seen dancing to some of the slower rock n roll type music. Swing has a real groove to it once you find the rhythm.

Is swing dancing good for beginners?

Swing dance lessons are great for beginners! Because swing dancing is so useful, it is a social dance that everyone should know. While not every swing dance style is equally “easy” to learn, beginners in particular will benefit from learning to swing dance for its versatility and fun factor.

What do you wear to a swing dance?

You don't need to wear anything special.

Although we do love a chance to get dressed up at balls and festivals, we're a pretty casual bunch during the week. Just wear something you're comfortable moving around in and be aware that swing dancing can get pretty hot.

Shoes?

Shoes with hard leather soles or very hard rubber/plastic soles. Dress shoes work well for this (although they often have very little padding, so put in air-pillow insoles or whatever). Shoes with high grip will not allow for some of the rotation required on non-slip flooring.
